Chapter 1 Chapter 1 awoke with a mosquito buzzing in her hair and drowned out form her mother calling her from downstairs. She also found a dead rat.

Chapter 2 Matilda mother found out that there young servant Polly was missing. Everybody was thinking of where she could be but not knowing the truth.
|
|
Chapter 3 They found out that Polly was dead and mourned all morning.
|
|
Chapter 4
Matilda had to do most of the left behind work that Polly had left
behind. She had to serve the customers
in the coffee shop. While working in
the coffee shop her grandfather and his parrot that he won in a bet came in.
While they work the gentlemen discuss the probabilities of Polly's
death..

Chapter 5 In chapter five she had went to the grocery store. On her way home from the store she dropped a bag of tea leaves and while picking them up she seen a boy she like named Nathaniel Benson.
|
|
Chapter 6 Matilda and her mother got invited to a party. The party was at the Ogilive's mansion. They were so excited to go to the tea party.
|
|
Chapter 7 Matilda and her mother went to the Olgivie's party. There oldest daughter Colette was complaining that it was hot and she fainted. After she fainted they thought she had the fever that was going around the city of Philadelphia.

Chapter 8
Matilda and her grandfather went to the printing shop and the men who
were in their were chatting about the changes that occurred during the time
of the disease and the people who were fleeing because of it.

|
Chapter 9 Matilda's mother gets ill. Matilda was worried and thought her mother was going to die. She noticed while her mother was sick, she would have to do all of the work around the house.
|
|
Chapter 10 Mattie is worried about her mother and she decided to go to the country with her grandfather so she won't catch the fever.
|
|
Chapter 11 In chapter 11 many people bored up there houses and fled to the country. Mattie and her grandfather went to the country to but they had only one horse pulling them and it took them awhile to get past the city line.

|
Chapter 12 Matilda and her grandfather got thrown off of there wagon and had to walk the rest of the way. They didn't walk far before grandfather shook with chills. After grandfather stop shaking he and Mattie decided to rest under a chestnut tree.

|
Chapter 13 Grandfather needed some food to get his strength back. Mattie went and gathered some water, berries, and fish. On the way back to her grandfather she passed out.
|
|
Chapter 14 Mattie awoke in Bush Hill. Bush Hill wasn't a place for a young girl. Her nurses name was Mrs.Flagg. Mattie found out that Bush Hill was no place for a young girl.

|
Chapter 15 When Mattie awoke from her sleep and Mrs.Flagg and Dr.Deveze sent her to the barn since she felt better. In chapter 15 wives were deserted by husbands and children by parents. While Mattie was in Bush Hill stories flew over her head as she slept.

Chapter 16 Mattie and grandfather were riding along with 5 fever orphans who were going to the orphanage. They were thanked for taking the orphans to the orphanage.

Chapter 17
Someone breaks
into the
coffeehouse and
steals and damages
everything
downstairs. When
they got back at
the coffee house
it was midday.
Someone broke the
parrots bird cage.

Chapter 18
In chapter 18,
Matilda was glad
to take a bath.
She was
glad because she
bathed only on
special
occasions.

Chapter 19 Mattie and her grandfather got robbed, and during the robbery Mattie managed to cut one of the men. Grandfather died because the men beat him to death.

Chapter 20
The burial men
came to get
her
grandfather.
The men
didn’t want to
pray over her
grandfather
,but she made
them do it
anyway.
On the way
walking to
anywhere she
found a little
girl named
Nell.

Chapter 21 Mattie and Nell found Eliza delivering food to the sick. The last little bit of information she got from her mother was his name. Seeing her mother's body, quite clearly a victim of the yellow fever, on the bed it seemed to make her mute.

Chapter 22
Eliza took Mattie
and Nell back to
her house where
she fed them soup
and gave them a
place to stay.
After
everyone had eaten
dinner and all the
children was
asleep Mattie and
Eliza talked about
what was going on.

Chapter 23 Mattie and Eliza went to a orphanage and notice to little children and there names were William and Nell. There is a great distress in the city for want of cash. Friendship is nearly entirely banished from our city.

Chapter 24 In chapter 24 they set out to see where they were useful. Eliza lost here patients, but she wasn't prepared for the heartache. They walked into strangers home, sitting on their furniture, and drying the tears of their children was harder than cleaning up the sick.

Chapter 25 Mattie and Eliza took care of the two children they seen at the orphan house because they felt sorry for them. Mother Smith sent a mule cart to the cooperage. She had to scrub the cart with boiling vinegar.

26 the frost
had came.

glad,

Eliza had
an idea to
have a
small
Thanksgiving
feast.
During the
feast
Mattie
asked
Eliza to
be her
partner
working in
the Cook
Coffee
Shop.

opened
up the
business
there
was a
lot of
customers.
On the
third
evening
after
the shop
closed
Mattie
went
home and
her
mother
was
there.
Everyone
was
happy.

so
happy
to
find
out
her
mother
wasn't
dead.
When
she
seen
her
across
the
street
and
she
ran
across
the
street
without
looking.

talked
about
what
