Laurie Halse Anderson

Laurie grow up in Syracuse, New York. Now she live in Philadelphia with her husband and 2 daughters. Her book Speak was nominated for the National Book Award for young People's Literature, is her first novel. She is also the author of three picture books, NO TIME FOR MOTHER'S DAY, TURKEY POX, and NDITO RUNS. When she was a little girl she pretended to be a polar bear when she was walking to school in Syracuse, New York. As a little girl she would pound away at her father's old typewriter for hours typing newspaper columns, stories, and letters. One of her favorite books was Heidi. She used to live on a pig farm in Denmark. She can speak Danish. She never intended to be an author at Georgetown University. She majored in foreign languages and linguistics.
