But they said that they would have two horses waiting for them if they needed to run away from their pursuers. And they also gave the boy a loaded pistol. They sent a boy to the doctor’s in search of armed assistance. Then the boy and his mother crept in the shadows back to the Admiral Benbow. When they got in the boy closed and locked the door. It was no doubt the black spot. On the other side of the paper it said” You have until ten tonight.” Then the boy’s mother told the boy to look for the key to the chest in his pockets. So the boy started searching and found some coins, a thimble, some thread and some big needles, a piece of tobacco that had been bitten away at the end, his gully with the crooked handle, and a pocket compass. Then the boy’s mother said to look around his neck. The boy tore his shirt open and there it was on a thin piece of string. The boy then went to the captain’s room and found the captain’s chest with the letter B burned on the top. The boy’s mother took the key and opened the box. When she opened the chest and the smell of tobacco rose from the interior. On top was a suit of very good close, carefully brushed and folded. Under the close was a quadrant, a tin cannikin, several stick of tobacco, two brace of very handsome pistols, a piece of bar silver, an old Spanish watch, a pair of compassed mounted with brass, and five or six curious West Indian shells and a bag of gold. The boy’s mother took only what the captain owed the inn. When they were half finished with counting the gold the boy suddenly heard the blind pew’s stick upon the road.
