Chapter One

On a stormy night Primrose Squarp was dropped off at a neighbor’s house. Her mother had seen bad weather, and said a typhoon was about to arrive, so she headed out to sea to look for her husband. Primrose was dropped off at the neighbors until her mother could return. Primrose waited for her mother to return, but she never did. So Primrose lived with their neighbor, Miss. Perfidy, until they found a relative for her to live with, who was her uncle.

Primrose Squarp moved in with her uncle Jack, since he was her relative. One day after school she was being criticized about her uncle being a developer, by a group of girls, who followed her to the restaurant, called The Girl On The Red Swing where she tried to hide from the girls, who followed her home everyday. She Stayed to the restaurant and cooked food with Miss. Bowzer, which is her friend and the owner of The Girl On The Red Swing.

In this section, Miss. Honeycut came to visit Primrose and her uncle at their house. She cooked Primrose’s uncle some lemon cookies. Miss. Honeycut and Primrose sat on uncle Jack’s porch and talked till he got home. Uncle Jack told stories and Miss. Honeycut told stories about each of their lives to each other and to Primrose. When Miss Honeycut left Primrose and uncle Jack’s house, uncle Jack had to go to the cinnamon house so Primrose did her homework and did some chores.

It was rainy days and September so Primrose couldn’t wait at the docks for her parents. She was being threatened and taunted at school on some days. One day she was getting chased by a girl so she ran into a store and pretended to be shopping. On the other hand she was accused about cutting the dogs leash that was in the store and was sent to jail. Where the policeman told her about her mothers coat, that was found on an island. She told uncle Jack about it when she got home.

When Primrose got home from the sheriff’s office her uncle was cooking. She told him about her day and about her mothers coat in which was found on an island. They were talking about trying to trick Miss. Bailey by telling her that they cooked cinnamon rolls in her house, so she would stop putting all those jars of cinnamon in the oven to get the scent. She put them in the oven too many times. Primrose was telling uncle Jack about the times when her mother was alive and the contest that they were having at school. They went to the neighbors house and she was baking cookies and they suggested for her to enter them in the cookie contest. But she wanted to be in the boiled potatoes contest. When she started it there was no stopping her. After their story uncle Jack told Primrose if she could cook cinnamon rolls then he would take her with him the next time he went to the cinnamon house.
