Introduction

          Hatchet is a good book about a boy named Brian Robeson that is going to Canada to see his father because his parents are divorced. Brian's mother gave him a hatchet before he got on the plane. Brian was on a small plane when all of a sudden the pilot has a heart attack and dies. Brian has to land the plane by himself. Brian has to live in the wilderness for a long time. Brian finds food, water, and a place to live while he is in the wilderness. Brian learns how to build a fire with the hatchet and birch bark. A plane flies by but the pilot doesn't notice him. Brian makes a raft and goes out to where the plane sunk in the water. He uses the hatchet to cut a hole in the plane's side, but Brian accidentally drops the hatchet and it starts sinking to the bottom of the lake's floor. Brian recovers the hatchet and goes inside the plane and finds a survival kit. Brian goes to the surface with the survival kit in hand and gets back on the raft. He goes to the shore and looks in the survival kit and finds a sleeping bag, an aluminum cook set, matches, lighters, a sheath knife with a compass in the handle, first-aid kit, a cap, a fishing kit, soap, 22.survival rifle a clip and a box of 50 shells, and he also finds an emergency transmitter. Brian flips the switch on the emergency transmitter back and forth, but it looked like it didn't work. The emergency transmitter did work and Brian accidentally leaves it on. While he was daydreaming about food, he hears a plane flying above. The plane lands on the lake. The pilot gets out of the plane and says that he had heard the emergency transmitter. The pilot and Brian get in the plane and leaves the area.
