Chapter 25 -29

In these last chapters the frost finally came and everyone was glad.  Matilda and Eliza let the children outside on a blanket to enjoy the long-wanted frost.  A little later Eliza had an idea to have a big Thanksgiving feast.  They invited everyone including Eliza's brother, Joseph, his children Robert and William , and his mother, who joined Matilda, Nathaniel, Eliza and Nell.  After everyone began finishing their meals, Mattie said she had a proposal to make.  She wanted to open the Cook Coffee Shop back up and she also wanted Eliza to be her partner because she thought she was to young to run a business on her own.  At first, Eliza said no because she was thinking that all of the customers wouldn't want her to have any leadership because she was black and they'd think she was trying to run over Matilda.  Mother Smith encouraged Eliza to take on the job.  Finally she did.  The decision made everyone happy especially Mattie.  The day Matilda and Eliza opened the business back up they overflowed with customers.  After Matilda's second night of work she came home to a big surprise, her mother.  She flung into her mothers arms they cried for a while.  then they both explained to each other .  Lucille told Mattie that she was at the Ludington's all the while and Mattie told her mother everything including when her Grandfather died.
