Chapter 15-19

  When Mattie awoke from her sleep, Mrs. Flagg and Dr. Deveze was just walking in to her room.   Dr. Deveze had come to check up on Mattie's sickness.  He announced that she was doing better and that she should be sent to the barn.  Mattie dreaded this.  She could not stand the smell of the manure.  After a few days Dr. Deveze suggested that Mattie should be sent to the orphan house.  Mattie did not want to go there and Grandfather didn't want her to go there either.  Therefore they caught a ride with the fever orphans to the city.  They were headed back to the coffee shop.  When they got there they found that the coffee house was destroyed.  It was awful someone had broken in and stole everything.  In chapter eighteen Mattie was glad to take a bath.  She only took baths on special occasions. In chapter nineteen someone broke into their house again.  It was two men, one shorted than the other.  During the robbery, Mattie got her grandfathers sword to fight off one of the robbers.  While doing so she cut one of the men on his arm.  In all of this commotion the men beat Grandfather to death.  Mattie was petrified.
